The American Dental Association provides a series of recommendations to help families maintain a healthy mouth. This includes brushing your teeth twice per day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. You also need to remember to floss between each of your teeth and along the gumline at least once per day.

The ADA also recommends having a dental checkup administered every six months by a dentist like Dr. Van Parham. This is critical for cleaning your teeth and detecting any newly developed oral health problems.

It starts with a professional dental cleaning administered by one of The Art of Dentistry’s dental hygienists. Once this is done Dr. Parham will examine your mouth for any signs of tooth decay, periodontal disease and oral cancer.

If he find an existing or developing problem, he will help you understand the treatment options. This might also include or preventive treatment measures.

If your tooth enamel shows early signs of demineralization he might recommend administering a fluoride treatment. This can be done in a few minutes to help your teeth resist tooth decay before your next dental checkup.

If necessary Dr. Parham might advise you on any changes you should make in your daily oral hygiene routine. This might help you maintain healthy teeth between dental checkups.

If you live in Irving, Texas, and you are due for your next dental exam and cleaning, you should call 972-441-8199 to schedule an appointment at The Art of Dentistry.
